My experience as a player has taken me from a wide range of private functions to concert rooms, restaurants, hotels and various other venues, in addition to all the supporting work in connection with my teaching and ensemble directing.  Performing has taken a back seat, but I continue to seek out new music and work on specific projects.

As a member of the Independent Society of Musicians (ISM), I have support in all professional matters.  I also have ISM Registered Private Teacher status, which means I am reference-checked and adhere to their codes of professional conduct, including safeguarding and child protection.  You can view my registration HERE.  I have been cleared by the government's Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) enhanced check to work with children, both through my teaching at Scarborough College, Scarborough College Prep School, and the ISM.  I am subscribed independently to the DBS Update Service, which means it's easy and quick for schools, colleges and other institutions to run a check for occasional work if I am hired in.  My wife, who is often at home while I am teaching, also has enhanced DBS clearance, in regard to her work as a school teacher.  I am also covered for public liability.

I have well over twenty years' teaching experience with students of all ages and abilities, before and throughout my time as an undergraduate at Birmingham Conservatoire, and since graduating in 2000 with first class honours.  This includes a lot of private work in addition to teaching at Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham, St Joseph’s School (now part of Lincoln Minster School), North Yorkshire County Music Service, Scarborough Area Music Centre, Scarborough College and Scarborough College Prep School.
